Ecological Landscape Design Online

Landscape architecture involves planning, designing and managing the physical environment at all scales - from small sites to entire regions. Although the profession is little more than years old, it has quickly evolved into a position of great importance. Landscape architects work in densely populated urban areas, wilderness landscapes and everything in between.

They are creative problem-solvers, sensitive to environmental and cultural issues, and keenly interested in people and their quality of life. As a Clemson landscape architecture major, you will learn design and place-making strategies for a variety of project types including: community revitalization; ecological restoration; public plazas and streetscapes; parks and open space systems; pedestrian trails and water canoeing, kayaking trails systems; college campus design; resorts and residential design; and waterfronts.

Inside the classroom and out, you'll have many opportunities to work with classmates in allied fields such as architecture, city and regional planning, construction science and management, real estate development and historic preservation. This professionally accredited program will give you the necessary critical thinking skills so when you graduate you will be ready to enter the design profession and will be qualified to become a licensed landscape architect.

The Bachelor of Landscape Architecture is a four-year nationally accredited professional degree program. The program is generalist, meaning it covers the major areas of practice and building from design basics to the advanced design studio experience, such as large-scale landscape planning; parks, recreation and open space planning; and regional, urban and community design.

Clemson's program is noted for its special emphasis on the art and science of design. For that reason, the landscape architecture design studio experience is at the center of the program - 42 hours of studio are required. Studio experience is supported by other courses inside and outside the landscape architecture curriculum that provide grounding in landscape history; horticulture; social, cultural and environmental issues; as well as aesthetics.

The program's location in Lee Hall gives students the important opportunity to interact with faculty and other students in the allied areas of city and regional planning, real estate development, architecture, and construction science and management. Landscape architecture majors have the opportunity to work beyond the classroom and engage in building, designing and planning.

Sustainable Landscape Design and Development

The Landscape Architecture and Horticulture programs at Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University share a vision of inspiring the next generation of professionals to lead the transformation of natural and built environments; and creating places that are ecologically sound, socially equitable and resilient, while addressing the challenges of climate change. Located in the greater Philadelphia region—a city and region known for its public horticulture and leading landscape architecture firms—students have access to world-renowned firms and organizations, as well as robust faculty, alumni and professional networks, which position students for internships and employment opportunities. Philadelphia Flower Show Carrying on a decade-long tradition, students in landscape architecture and horticulture collaborate to create an exhibit for the annual Philadelphia Flower Show. Landscape architecture students design and construct the exhibit in the junior Design Build Studio while horticulture students support the preparation and forcing of exhibit plants in elective classes. Part Time Landscape Design

This very comprehensive course begins with an overview of historical garden design perspectives, including an examination of the role of art, statuary, wildlife, water, and native ecosystems. The principles of landscape design and how the various elements are used in softscaping and hardscaping will be examined in detail on how to achieve particular esthetics and function. Design terminology and drafting skills will be applied when following the steps of the design process. Through case studies and project work, the topics of site analysis, hardscape construction and grading, estimating and landscape supplies, drainage and water solutions, site remediation and special needs will be covered. Throughout, presentation skills will be emphasized.

Sustainable Landscaping Online Course

The Ecological Landscape Alliance ELA is a nonprofit, member-based organization made up of professionals, businesses, and pro-active community members who believe in using landscape practices that are environmentally safe and beneficial. The school offers workshops from two days to two weeks, certificate programs, and a college semester program. These classes cover topics including natural building, sustainable design, energy efficiency and renewables, ecological landscapes, regenerative design, and many more. Eligible Yestermorrow programs include workshops such as the five-day Regenerative Farm and Garden Design course or the twelve-day Permaculture Design Certificate. The Bachelor of Landscape Architecture Honours is a four-year honours degree designed to develop skills in design, construction and management associated with natural and built landscapes. This degree is for those who are passionate about sustainability, ecology, urban environments and design. Students develop the skills to creatively address the key challenges of contemporary society, including climate change, urban densification and the loss of biodiversity. Theory combined with hands-on studio projects is key to this course. Students learn how landscape and public space can unify complex urban environments, balancing environmental needs with those of contemporary society and culture. Students apply this knowledge in studios where they develop the skills to create cohesive, practical and resilient design solutions that combine both art and science. The degree has an international focus, exploring global and regional cities and urban environments through case studies, design research, technical analysis and global study tours.
